The trip

Yesterday, the 3rd of May, our Italian group finally arrived in Greece. The trip was very long and tiring. 

Our alarm clocks went off at 1:30 A.M., but only for those who were able to sleep because of the excitement of a new adventure coming the very next morning. We took a bus from Rapallo to the airport in Bergamo at 2:00 A.M., then we got in a plane that brought us directly to Thessaloniki, the second most important city in Greece. 

Once we arrived by bus to Edessa we immediately rushed to hug those who we previously saw in Italy only two months ago, with whom we were more than happy to be reunited with. 

Our schoolwork

During our first day in Greece we met at 8:30 A.M. at 1st Geniko Lykeio Edessas “Nikolaos Oikonomides” with all the students from different countries. At 8:45 A.M. everyone moved to a large room in the school. There, each student from each country presented themselves and their hometown with photos, videos and much more. 

After that we listened to a lecture about fake news, kindly presented by an expert of this matter. We were then divided into 5 groups; We each were assigned a project consisting in finding an article that wasn’t truthful, pointing out how to find one, and then creating a meme about it. This was a great opportunity for everyone to interact with each other although it may be difficult at first. We had the opportunity to meet amazing new people who make us feel at home no matter how many kilometres separate us from our countries. 

Tour of the village

After having a quick snack we were given a tour by a tour guide who walked us through all the most important attractions and museums of this small village. We saw reptiles, minerals and how and where sesame is made in old historical buildings. 

We were then brought to the beautiful waterfalls of Edessa, where we all took pictures, talked and laughed admiring the wonderful landscape. At 4:30 P.M. we went to an ice cream shop to have a snack and then all head home.
